本教材涵蓋20世紀最有代表性的優(yōu)秀英國文學家：J.康拉德、E.M.福斯特、K.曼斯菲爾德、W.葉芝、T.S.艾略特、D.H.勞倫斯、J.喬伊斯、V.伍爾夫、A. 赫胥黎、S.貝克特和W.戈爾丁，其中有小說家、短篇小說家、詩人和劇作家，四位諾貝爾文學獎獲得者。教材每篇課文包括作家的“生平”“創(chuàng)作時期及主要作品”“思想觀點”“美學原則和創(chuàng)作手法”“選讀”（1篇文學代表作和1篇文論）和“思考題”六部分，概括作家的生活哲學、政治觀、道德觀、美學觀、創(chuàng)作手法和藝術(shù)風格，結(jié)合宏觀歷史語境研究和微觀文學文本分析，探究各個作家批判現(xiàn)代工業(yè)異化效應、質(zhì)疑殖民主義、張揚女性主義，深思傳統(tǒng)與現(xiàn)代性、歷史與現(xiàn)代文明、東方與西方?jīng)_突等多方面的現(xiàn)代主義和后現(xiàn)代主義文學主題意義，分析文學作品中蘊涵的象征主義、反傳統(tǒng)敘事、意識流、荒誕派藝術(shù)等創(chuàng)新美學觀, 系統(tǒng)闡釋20世紀英國文學豐富的思想價值和藝術(shù)性。
朱望

朱望，汕頭大學文學院外國語言文學系教授，兩次赴美國、一次赴英國作英國文學和西方文化研究項目（國家項目一個）。從1996年至今發(fā)表現(xiàn)代英國文學論文多篇，如《論T.S論艾略特的文化保守主義》《文學與文化之間：〈論印度之行〉跨文化的多重意義》《論喬伊斯〈一個青年藝術(shù)家的畫像〉中的社會化意義》等（刊于《外國文學研究》《國外文學》《外國文學》《英美文學研究論叢》《解放軍外語學院學報》等期刊）。著有《現(xiàn)代英國文學大家》和《現(xiàn)當代西方文化名家》，形成了文學與文化相輔相成的配套英文教材。 教授現(xiàn)代英國文學20年（汕大教學無記名評估每位學期97—99分，名列全校第一/校平均分88）；任碩士導師12年；完成汕頭大學的“20世紀英國文學”精品課程建設項目，本教材就是項目建設的主要內(nèi)容；獲云南省“優(yōu)秀教師”稱號，多次獲云南大學校級、省級和汕頭大學校級優(yōu)秀獎，并獲得“李嘉誠基金會卓越教師獎”。
